About Fiona Mittag
Fiona was born in London England and completed an Honors Degree in Modern Languages and History of Art at Bristol University. She also spent one year at Salzburg University in Austria. Apart from London, Fiona has lived in Vienna, New York and Tokyo before settling in Connecticut where she created M & F Antique Prints and Framing at the beginning of the 1990’s.
While living in New York Fiona completed a course at Parsons School of Interior Design which developed her interest in color combinations as used in interior decoration. She began to experiment in making her own decorative mats using hand-drawn lines, watercolor washes as well as the use of linens and silks with the aim of enhancing but never dominating the artwork itself. The color, texture and size of a mat influences the overall effect of the print or painting and when appropriate can be linked by means of the matting to the decor and style of the room.
Fiona is happy to visit the client’s home to advise on print choice, matting and framing options, as well as to offer interesting and innovative ways to display and hang artworks.
M & F offers a unique combination in today’s art market. Apart from selling original antique engravings and lithographs, M & F specializes in personalized custom matting and framing of all artworks to create a truly individual piece, in harmony with the client’s interior design setting.
“Fiona is extremely knowledgeable about antique prints, and through her own research and influential connections around the globe she collects an array of true gems featuring a wide range of subjects. The prints are only the beginning: Fiona has the eye of a top interior designer–suggesting where and how prints can tie together all elements in a room and enhance every wall in your home. She also stocks gorgeous frames of every type, masterfully frames all prints on her own and knows just how to make each print pop.”
“I have been buying antique prints from M&F, both for personal use and for clients, for the past 25 years. Fiona is an expert in her field and has a wide range of one of a kind prints which mix well with both traditional and more contemporary interiors. Her large selection of handmade frames accent her prints beautifully, and make one stop shopping a valuable time saving experience.”
